5 Things to Do this Week in Williamson County

There's lots of fun happening around Franklin the week of May 28-June 3, 2021

By Heather Griffin May 27, 2021

Every Thursday, Macaroni Kid Franklin will share five things to do with your kids in Franklin, TN and surrounding areas in Williamson County over the coming week. Memorial Day weekend is nigh, so it's the perfect time to get out and officially kick off your family's summer fun!

Here are Macaroni Kid Franklin's picks for the five things to do in the Williamson County area with kids May 28-June 3, 2021. Click on the links for all the details!

1. Get Splashing...

While some pools in Williamson County have been open on the weekends since May 1, this weekend marks the official start of the summer pool season. Check out the Williamson County Parks & Recreation website to find the community pool nearest to your family. Or there's my family's personal favorite--the splash pad at Fischer Park at Port Royal is opening Saturday, May 29 and We. Are. Excited.

2. Stock up on Fresh Produce and More

Grilling out for the holiday weekend? You'll find everything you need for your outdoor feast at the Franklin Farmer's Market. Located at The Factory in Franklin, you and your kids will be amazed by the sprawl of vendors selling anything from organic meat and fresh produce to pastries and handcrafted goods.

3. Get Inspired with Spring Blooms

I recently got into gardening and--whoa--it's addictive (and surprisingly fun to do with kids)! My new favorite thing to do is drive over to a nearby garden center like Riverbend Nurseries in Thompson's Station and check out what's blooming while my son enjoys running up and down the endless aisles of trees and shrubs. Even if I don't buy anything, it's still fun to look and get inspired.

4. Go on a Picnic

It's getting hot in Tennessee, and pretty soon it'll be too hot and buggy to sit outside for very long without a misting fan and a citronella candle. So think about packing up a picnic basket this weekend and taking the whole family to a park or even Arrington Vineyards where you might just be met with some live music as a bonus.

5. Take a Hike

There are so many hiking trails in our area that I could fill an entire article up just talking about that. Radnor Lake is only a few minutes off of I-65 and features impeccably maintained wooded trails, lots of shade to beat the heat, and even a stroller-friendly paved loop for families with littles too young to hike yet. Oh, and the views of the lake are stunning from almost anywhere in the park.

Those are just a few of the fun things to do around Franklin this week, but more events are being added to my calendar all the time. Keep checking back for more ways to find your family fun this summer!
